India and the Himalayas

Experience the culture and see the sights of these two small Himalayan countries. Both contain an incredible variety of terrain from tropical lowlands to the highest point on earth, Mount Everest in Nepal. Strong traditional cultures and religions persist, primarily Hindu in Nepal and Buddhist in Bhutan.

Arrive Kathmandu. Full day excursion around the city including the "Monkey Temple" and Durbar Square.
Visit the medieval city of Bhaktapur then drive through rice fields up to the hilltop village of Nagarkot at about 4,300 feet altitude.
Drive to Kathmandu and have the rest of the day at leisure or do some shopping.
Take a commercial flight from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan then drive to Thimphu. Full day of sightseeing in Thimphu including the arts school, weaving center and Folk Heritage Museum.
Drive to Punakha and visit the dzong, Chimmi Lhakhang and a traditional village farmhouse.
Drive to Paro and stop at the Dochu La Pass to hang prayer flags. Full day excursion around Paro including the National Museum and one of the oldest shrines in Bhutan dating to the 7th century. Hike up to the famous Tiger's Nest monastery for amazing views.
International flight home.
