African Safari in Kruger with Bazaruto Island Getaway, 8 Days - From: $4,710

Bushtracks Safari in South Africa and Mozambique

In this African safari begin by traveling to the Mala Mala Game Reserve located in the heart of the Kruger National Park in South Africa. No other destination can compete with the Lowveld's pristine wilderness locations which are legally protected from human interference. The region, larger than many independent countries, is home to the largest concentrations of free roaming elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, and literally hundreds of other species of wild mammal. Today this area is known to have the greatest diversification of animal species on the African continent. Over two hundred different species occur in abundance whilst the ever changing bird life provides even the most experienced ornithologist with rare finds.

It is here, strategically sandwiched between the Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Wildtuin, that the Mala Mala Game Reserve is situated. The unfenced borders between Mala Mala Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park on one side, and the Sabi Sand Wildtuin on the other allows animals to migrate unhindered to the perennial Sand River which flows north to south through Mala Mala for 13 miles. This well preserved wilderness is a “honey-pot” to the most sought-after wildlife species, as well as a host of smaller creatures. Mala Mala is part of a conservation gene pool that covers 5.5 million acres of land in the heart of the South African Lowveld.

The Mala Mala reserve supports a variety of habitat types; dense riverine forest, acacia-combretum bushveld, open grassland and rocky outcrops, each sustaining different plant and animal species. Drives are varied and full, with a different outlook around each corner.

Continue on to the exquisite island destination of Bazaruto Island, the largest island in the Mozambique's Bazaruto Archipelago. The island of Bazaruto is situated 30 km off the coast of Mozambique. A protected National Park, the archipelago boasts 180 species of birds, endemic butterflies, suni antelopes and freshwater crocodiles. Bazaruto is one of Africa's premier scuba diving destinations. Divers are able to see over 100 species of coral, tropical fish species, five kinds of dolphins, four whale species and sharks, all five marine sea turtle species and the largest population of the rare dugong on the African east coast.

Experience the raw beauty of the wildlife conservatory on your safari as well as the tropical paradise of the Indian Ocean.

Itinerary

Days 1 - 3

Kruger National Park, South Africa

On Day 1, arrive into Johannesburg, South Africa and connect to scheduled charter to Mala Mala Game Reserve, in Greater Kruger National Park.

On arrival you will be met by a Mala Mala representative and transferred to your camp situated amid shady trees and manicured lawns on the banks of the Sand River. The rooms consist of spacious rondavels under thatch, each enjoying a spectacular view and equipped with "His" and "Her" bathrooms, air-conditioning, insect proof screens, electric shaver plug, PABX telephone/intercom, and top quality extra large twin beds. Each room is individually decorated and features sets of animal or bird prints completing the attention to detail for which Mala Mala is world famous.

The entire camp is furnished in rattan furniture, however, despite the comfort offered Mala Mala retains a camp atmosphere. Breakfast and lunch are served in an attractive air-conditioned dining room overlooking the Sand River, whilst dinner in a reed enclosed "Boma" has been the Mala Mala tradition for over sixty years. Seated around a log fire, under the starry African sky, enjoying superb food and sampling the outstanding South African wines is yet another highlight in the Mala Mala experience.

Over 76% of Mala Mala guests have achieved membership of the prestigious Mala Mala "Big Five Club" after contact sightings of lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo from open land rovers. The reason for this phenomenal rate of viewing success may be attributed to the fact that Mala Mala owns 45,000 acres of pristine game viewing land, with a common boundary of 33 kms with the world famous Kruger National Park. The reserve also straddles the perennial Sand River.
